PS5 emulators for PC: compare the source evidence

Four open-source projects are attempting to run PlayStation 5 games on PC. This page tracks each one against its primary GitHub sources: verified repositories, latest releases, latest default-branch commits, commit activity and implementation approach. We do not distribute any emulator binaries.

Source snapshot checked on October 15, 2026 (UTC). All dates below are UTC.

Repository and release comparison

Primary GitHub sources checked October 15, 2026. "Latest release" is the release GitHub marks as latest at check time; newer default-branch commits do not imply those changes are in that release.

Compatibility evidence: a release-note checkpoint

We have not run first-party game tests. "Not reported" means the source did not provide that value; it must not be read as zero.

Entries below quote primary release-note text verbatim or near-verbatim, with a direct source link. Checked October 15, 2026.
Game Project / build Verified statement FPS / hardware Source
Dreaming Sarah AnyPS5 v0.1.2 Fixed startup blocking (unwind / debug-raise) so the flow can continue. Gameplay is not established by that entry. Not reported v0.1.2 release notes

Linked developer reports: additional context

Second-hand developer reports. These are context, not verified statements; each row carries its limitation.
Game Developer-reported result Limitation Sources
ASTRO's PLAYROOM Rendering changes resolved incomplete graphics and black blocks. Developers reported performance strain. Full playability and FPS were not verified. SharpEmu release notes + merged PR #1030
Demon Slayer 2 Black screen persists after entering the in-game state. Rendering defects unresolved in that report. Full playability and FPS were not verified. SharpEmu release notes + merged PR #1069

A project absent from a game row has an evidence gap, not a proven incompatibility. Coverage is thin because the field itself is young — see the full compatibility log for per-game status, and the requirements page before you try anything.

Why no download buttons

SimTrack is an independent tracking site. We link only to the primary GitHub repositories above and never host or mirror installers, firmware, BIOS images or game files. A download that merely looks like one of these projects proves nothing about its origin — verify the repository identity yourself before running any executable, and prefer release assets published on the verified repositories linked in the table.

FAQ

Which PS5 emulator is the most advanced right now?

Based on public commit activity and release cadence as of October 2026, KytyPS5 and SharpEmu are the most active projects, while AnyPS5 works differently (porting executables rather than emulating the console). We do not rank projects because there is not yet enough verified first-party evidence.

Is there a PS5 emulator that runs all games?

No. Every project covers a small subset of titles, often only to the point of rendering or booting. Treat any claim of full-library compatibility as a red flag.

Are PS5 emulators legal?

Emulation itself is legal in the United States; distributing copyrighted game files, firmware or BIOS images is not. This site discusses publicly available open-source projects and hosts no copyrighted material. See our editorial standards.
